Excell messing it up

Do you have office 2007?

As discussed – here – if you multiply 850 by 77.1 in A1 cell you will get 100000 instead of 65535. Microsoft already knows about this problem and is working in a update, but do you want to know more?

  • A1+1 returns 100001.
  • A1*2 returns 131,070 (A1=65.535 ??).
  • A1*1 returns 100,000.
  • A1/1 returns 100,000.
  • A1/2 returns 32767,5 (A1=65.535 ??).
  • And it keeps on and on…

The 850*77.1 isn’t and exception. An error in the Excel logic is possibly the cause and more numbers are affected, I won’t give more details as they are more explored in this discussion group – as told before.

Anyway, I wasn’t planning to install 2007 so soon – I already tested it, but I will keep to 2003(I don’t like the new “visual enhancements”) – if it works for what I want why update.
