What’s your Operative System?

For some reason XP isn’t included in the picture bellow, but my main Operative System at the moment is Ubuntu(unix), but I go often to XP synchronize my pda, it’s better than going to Vista [yuck].

Now what we all need to know is: What is yours?
mac_linux_vista

Got this from Natyvw blog.

Excell messing it up

Do you have office 2007?

As discussed - here - if you multiply 850 by 77.1 in A1 cell you will get 100000 instead of 65535. Microsoft already knows about this problem and is working in a update, but do you want to know more?

  • A1+1 returns 100001.
  • A1*2 returns 131,070 (A1=65.535 ??).
  • A1*1 returns 100,000.
  • A1/1 returns 100,000.
  • A1/2 returns 32767,5 (A1=65.535 ??).
  • And it keeps on and on…

The 850*77.1 isn’t and exception. An error in the Excel logic is possibly the cause and more numbers are affected, I won’t give more details as they are more explored in this discussion group - as told before.

Anyway, I wasn’t planning to install 2007 so soon - I already tested it, but I will keep to 2003(I don’t like the new “visual enhancements”) - if it works for what I want why update.

Safari on Windows

Safari, the famous browser from apple is now available for Windows.
Too bad it’s still on beta 3. It still has some features missing, but with time I think it would be a choice for many people, not just for the speed but for the change of browser.

CSS Vista

CSSVista is a free Windows application for web developers which lets you edit your CSS code live in both Internet Explorer and Firefox simultaneously.

The possibility of using IE and Firefox in the same windows while editing the CSS in real time is awesome. The bad thing about it is about that we can’t change between versions of IE, and support for more browsers would be great. Although that, this new version has code completion and element outlining to help you see side-by-side all block elements in both browsers.

You can get more info and download here: http://sitevista.com/cssvista/.

Firefox “Software update failed” solved

OMG! It was what I said about the solution.

The problem:
Firefox automatic downloaded a new version and asked for restart.
Restarted and then I get:

Software Update Failed
One or more files could not be updated. Please make sure all other applications are closed and that you have permission to modify files, and then restart Firefox to try again.

Weird but after a lot of search and a few tries to change file permissions and other things around it , I discovered that YzDock was blocking somehow the update installation.

The Solution:
YzDock options -> Quit.

Open firefox, the update installation is done and voi?la…done.

Edit: This affects both firefox and thunderbird.
